Pick the area before the ticket.
Most Mendoza winery days stay in one area, so the area decides the wines, the drive and the day. The Visit Argentina tourism site describes three of them. This guide keeps what that page says and points to the vstmd tickets that go there.
Maipú: the closest and warmest.
According to the source, Maipú lies about 15 km east of Mendoza city at roughly 650 to 850 metres, with a warmer climate where grapes ripen earlier, and it is among the most traditional wine areas of the province. It describes the wines as fruitier and rounder, with Malbec, Bonarda and Cabernet Sauvignon among the grapes. Wine Tasting and Winery Tour visits wineries in Maipú, and Maipu Wineries Private Tour is the private version.
Luján de Cuyo: the historic Malbec core.
The page places Luján de Cuyo about 20 km south of the city at roughly 900 to 1,100 metres, with a dry, sunny climate and big swings between day and night. It calls the area the cradle of Argentine Malbec and describes structured wines with black fruit and spice. Two tickets go there: Luján de Cuyo Wineries Small Group Tour and the private Lujan de Cuyo Wineries Private Tour + Sparkling Wine Tasting, which lists sparkling wine tastings.
The Uco Valley: higher, cooler and further.
The source puts the Uco Valley about 80 to 130 km south of the city at roughly 1,000 to 1,500 metres, with cold nights and a long ripening season. It describes fresh, aromatic wines with natural acidity and minerality, and names Malbec, Cabernet Franc and Chardonnay among its grapes. Uco Valley Wineries Private Tour is the private ticket for the area. The distance is the reason to give it a full day.
What the source does not say.
The page does not tell you which winery a ticket stops at on a given day, and the wines poured can change. Several tickets list tastings “depending on the option”, so read the inclusion list on each page. Private tours list a from-price that may cover the whole group, so check the group price. Confirm dietary needs and age limits with the provider.
