The Dublin notebook · By vstmd editors

What to eat in Dublin, before the first bite.

A little context for a more thoughtful choice.

At a glance

Whiskey, tea and coffee are the Dublin drinks that the Visit Dublin food guide describes and that also appear in the inclusion list of a ticket on vstmd. Read what each ticket lists, and confirm dietary needs with the provider.

Read the dish before the ticket.

Visit Dublin, the city’s tourism site, has a guide to food experiences in and around Dublin. This notebook keeps what the guide says about whiskey, tea and coffee and shows which Dublin tickets on vstmd list something related. Where no ticket names a food, we say so.

Whiskey: classes in the distillery quarter.

The guide describes distillery sessions in the Liberties that cover blending, bottling at cask strength and whiskey cocktails, and a Roe & Co session where you build a whiskey cocktail. Those exact sessions are not on vstmd. Four tickets here involve whiskey: Jameson Distillery Tour (a welcome drink and three whiskeys), Teeling Distillery Tour (admission and tastings), Guinness Storehouse & Jameson Distillery Tour (Jameson samples plus a pint of Guinness) and Dublin Whiskey Tour by Vintage Bus (tastings and entry to the Irish Whiskey Museum).

Tea: the traditional hot drink.

Visit Dublin calls tea the traditional hot drink and mentions afternoon tea on a vintage bus. Dublin Food Tour lists Irish tea among its inclusions, next to potato cake, smoked salmon, soda bread, Irish stew and a glass of beer or wine. The vintage bus ticket on vstmd lists whiskey tastings, not tea.

Coffee: a scene of its own.

The guide describes a specialty coffee scene with local roasters, shops and barista courses. Irish Coffee Masterclass is not a barista course: it is a 45-minute class on mixing, pouring and layering an Irish coffee, and the ticket lists a tasting. Ask the provider about decaf or dairy-free cream at least 24 hours ahead, as the record says.

Named by the guide, not listed on a ticket we track.

The guide also names seafood and oysters around Howth, bread and scone baking classes, foraging walks and gin experiences. No Dublin ticket on vstmd lists them, so we promise none of them. The guide does not mention Guinness or Irish stew, although two tickets here list them.

Dietary needs.

Irish stew, smoked salmon, soda bread and cream all contain common allergens, and a list of inclusions is no guide to allergies. Confirm substitutions with the provider before you book.

Try the drink, not only the name.

The Guinness Storehouse & Jameson Distillery Tour is the best-reviewed whiskey ticket on vstmd, with 56 English reviews.
